One or more species of the following genera of actinorhizal plant species are known to possess either ectomycorrhiza (EM) or arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) or both: Alnus, Casuarina, Comptonia, Myrica, Elaeagnus, Shepherdia, Purshia, Cerocarpus, Dryas, Coriaria (both EM and AM) and Discaria, Hippophae, Ceanothus, Rubus, Datisca, Colletia (AM). In general, the AM symbionts belong to the genera Glomus, Gigaspora and Acaulospora.AM inoculation of Casuarina equisetifolia, Hippophae rhamnoides and Ceanothus velutinus proved beneficial in enhancing the uptake of phosphorus, nodulation and nitrogen fixation.
