Class III Biosafety Cabinets - These cabinets are totally enclosed and operate at a negative pressure to that of room air. Air coming into and going out of the cabinet is sterilized by HEPA filters. The infectious materials are handled inside the cabinet with rubber gloves that are attached and sealed to the cabinet.

These cabinets afford the most protection to the workers and are suitable for working with group 4 pathogens. Flexible plastic tents with filtered air inlets and exhausts are an attractive alternative to class III cabinets.
