Tuberculosis -Pulmonary tuberculosis is a severe respiratory disease. Loss of appetite, fatigue, weight loss, night sweats and persistent cough are some of the symptoms. Causative agent is Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Animal experiments showed that, in a susceptible host, the inhalation of a single particle, carrying a viable tubercle bacillus and small enough to reach the lungs, was capable of producing infection.
Leprosy bacilli, Mycobacterium leprae, are found in large numbers in the nasal secretions of lepromatous patients and are dispersed in a similar way to the tubercle bacillus.
