Actinomycetes as Bio-fertiliser
Frankia is an actinomycete and forms nitrogen fixing nodules in trees and shrubs. The organism invades the cells of a developed lateral root and causes it to fuse into a nodule. Entry into the host changes the structure of the microbe. Scientists are hopeful that some day they may be able to make fruit trees like apple, pear, plum, raspberry, etc. by fixing nitrogen through the involvement of Frankia.
