Epibiotic Communities Epibacteria Periphytes - Inanimate as well as animate surfaces also provide habitats for microorganisms. These attached microorganisms are referred to as epibiotic communities. Sometimes the attached bacteria are also referred to as epibacteria or periphytes. In contrast to the epibiotic community, endobiotic community inhabits the tissues of larger aquatic forms. Microorganisms belonging to this community may exhibit a mutualistic or parasitic relationship with the host organisms.
