Ground Waters

Ground Waters - Groundwater is the subterranean water that occurs where all the pores in the soil and rocks are saturated. Ground waters are generally considered to be free from bacteria because of the filtering action of the earth when the water passes through it. Not only the microorganisms but also the suspended organic material in the water get removed by this filtering action. Springs form when the groundwater reaches the surface through a rock fissure or through porous soil.

Wel1s are made by boring the ground deep into the ground water level. Deep wells normally contain fewer microorganisms than the shallow wells. Wells less than 100 feet deep are considered as shallow wells. Properly located springs and wells will have bacteriologically pure water if precaution are taken to avoid contamination.
