Mixing of Waters in Sea Ocean - Mixing of waters by various forces leads to a change in the total nutrient content of the sea, which also causes a redistribution of microorganisms.
Three different phenomena have been recognized. Upwelling is a phenomenon which occurs in an ocean when water rises from a deeper to a shallower depth, usually as a result of divergence of offshore currents or winds. During upwelling the bottom water brings some nutrients along with it and delivers it to the .surface. The second phenomenon is the geothermal vents which also contribute to the nutrient level of the ocean.
The third one is the gyre which are large spiralling surface currents in the ocean that tend to aggregate and retain nutrients, wastes and microorganisms.
