Response of Plants to Azospirillum Inoculation
Field experiments carried out by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in different parts of India have revealed that seed inoculation of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), bajra (Pennisetum americanum) and ragi (Eleusine corocana) increased grain and fodder yields in different agro-climatic conditions of India. Similar results have been obtained by scientists in Israel who also find responses of millets to Azospirillum inoculation. Currently, A. amazonense has been isolated from the root zone of coconut in Kerala, India.
