Aminogylycosides - The aminoglycoside aminocyclitol antibiotics contain both an amino sugar and an aminocyclitol (with the exception of spectionomycin).
They are divided into two classes.
Class I - Those containing streptidine, e. g. streptomycin and derivatives.
Class II - Those containing deoxystreptamine.
1. Substituents attached to 4-and 5-hydroxyls of deoxystreptamine. e.g. neomycin, ribostamycin and paromomycin.
2. Substituents attached to 4-and 6-hydroxyls of deoxystreptamine e.g. kanamycins, gentamycins and tobramycins.
