Elongation Process In Translation In Protein Synthesis

Elongation Process In Translation In Protein Synthesis -

(a) Codon recognition. Enzymatic recognition of internal codons in the presence of elongation factors (EF- Tu, EF- Ts), GTP and Mg++ takes place.

(b) Transpeptidation. A peptide bond is formed between initiator fMet-tRNA and the second AA - tRNA by1ransfer of the fMet (peptidyl) group to the second amino acid. MgH and K+ arc required.

(c) Translocation involves:

(i) release of deacylated tRNA fMet,

(ii) one codon movement of mRNA with respect to the ribosome and (iii) movement of peptidyl-tRNA from the A site to the P site.

The internal codon recognition site is now free for the recognition of the next AA-tRNA.
