Gultarimides - The glutarimide antibiotics react with the 60S ribosomal subunits and include cycloheximide, acetoxycycloheximide, streptimidone streptovitacins and inactone.
They inhibit chain initiation as well as chain elongation by interacting with 60S ribosomal subunits. Chain elongation is prevented by inhibiting the entry of peptidyl-tRNA from the A-site to the P-site. Initiation is interfered with by binding of initator tRNA to ribosomes or junction of 60S subunits to the initiation complex.
