Inhibiting DNA Synthesis -Although several compounds inhibit DNA biosynthesis, only a few of them are used clinically as antimicrobial drugs. This is because most inhibitors cannot distinguish between nucleic acid biosynthesis of microorganisms and that their hosts. Inhibitors of nucleic acid synthesis fall into two main, groups, (i) those interfering with the synthesis of purine and pyrimidine precursors and (Ii) inhibitors of polymerization.
