Inhibitors Of Polymerization - During polymerization the nucleoside triphosphates are condensed into a polynucleotide chain with the elimination of inorganic phosphates. Inhibitors of polymerization act by (i) disturbing the template function of nucleic acid, or (ii) by directly inhibiting the specific polymerase. Inhibitors disturbing template function interact with the nucleic acid and cause changes in the physical properties of the macromolecules.
