Teichoic
Acids : - The teichoic
acids (ribitol
and
glycerol
phosphates)
are
a
family
of
large
molecular
weight
polymers
which
are
found
mostly
in
Gram-positive
bacteria
and
are
located
in
the
membrane
and
the
wall.
They
are
grouped
mainly
as
the
wall
teichoic
acids
and
the
membrane
teichoic
acids
although
originally
the
word
teicho
was
given
to
indicate
their
presence
only
in
the
wall.
The
ribitol
and
glycerol
teichoic
acids
are
the
two
most
commonly
isolated.
In
ribitol
teichoic
acid,
the
phosphodiester
linkages
are
between
positions
one
and
five
of
the
ribitol
residues
and
most
ribitol
residues
possess
a
D-alanine
moiety.
