6.The Rhodospirillaceae are facultative heterotrophs and can grow both photoautotrophically and photoheterotrophically. They can also grow in the dark, both aerobically and anaero­bically, as chemoheterotrophs. Photosynthesis is strictly anaerobic. All can fix Ng photosynthetically .
