Pseudomonas and Paracoccus - The present day respiring bacteria could have arisen from the Rhodospirillaceae by a mutational deletion of the photosynthetic apparatus. The bacteria could now survive on respiration alone in the increased oxygen concentration of the earth's atmosphere.
