Nonreciprocal Recombinations
It was earlier thought that crossing over was a form of mutual, exchange between homologous chromosomes, and that it necessarily resulted in reciprocal recombinants. Nonreciprocal behaviour was first found in yeast (Lindegren) and Neurospora (Mitchell). The phenomenon has been called gene conversion. Later on several other exceptions were discovered for recombinants arising from nearby sites in the same gene
