Classes of Plasmids

Classes of Plasmids - As mentioned previously, conjugative plasmids can

(i) determine their own transfer in bacteria and (it) can also promote the transfer of other genes from the donor to the recipient cell during conjugation.

Many plasmids can transfer a non-conjugative plasmid which is present along with the conjugative plasmid in the bacterial cell.

Such conjugative plasmids are said to have transfer factor ability, and mobilize the non-conjugative plasmid

Some conjugative plasmids can cause the transfer of chromosomal genes during conjugation.
