Tumifaciens-
A large plasmid in A. tumifaciens is found to cause the disease crown gall in dicotyledonous plants.
Infection of the plant through wounds stimulates the growth of tumours around the wound.
A virulent strains of A. tumifaciens do not have plasmids.
Two types of biochemically distinguishable tumours have been found.
Depending on the infecting bacterial strain, tumours may be rich in the amino acid actopine or nopaline.
