Gram Negative Anerobic Bacteria
Bacteria
belonging
to
this
part
are
pleomorphic,
rod
shaped,
nonmotile
or
motile
with
peritrichous
flagella.
Mostly
chemoorganotrophs
present
in
natural
cavities
of
man
and
other
animals
and
intestinal
tract
of
insects.
Some
are
pathogenic.
Important
members
include
Bacteriodes,
Desulfovibrio
and
Butyrivibrio.
Members
of
the
genus
Desulfovibrio
are
chemoorganotrophs
and
obtain
energy
by
anaerobic
respiration
reducing
sulphates
or
other reducible
sulphur
compounds
to
H2S.
These
contain
C3-cytochromes
and
desulfoviridin
which
is
responsible
for
the
characteristic
red
fluorescence
at
365
nm
