Gram Negative Cocci and Coccobacilli

Tabular Form of Bacterial Classification From David Bergey's Manual

Members of this group are spherical, in pairs or in masses with adjacent sides flattened or Rod shaped. Non motile, aerobic and some species contain a xanthophyll pigment. Some members are parasitic, while others are saprophytic or opportunistic. Cells of two genera namely Neisseria and Branhamella divide in two planes while cells in Moraxella and Acinetobacter divide in one plane.

Members of the genera Neisseria and Branhamella are parasites found in the mucous membranes of mammals while members of the genus Acinetobacter are free living bacteria commonly found in soil and water.s
