Phage -
The process by which the lambda phage DNA is integrated into the bacterial host cell DNA is called site specific recombination.
The association between phage and host cell chromosomes is explained by the Campbell model (1962). The essential features of this model are as follows:
(i) the linear phage DNA is converted into a circular form by end joining, and
(ii) a single ,reciprocal recombination at specific loci in each chromosome results in the insertion of the phage chromosome' Into the host chromosome.
