- DNA methylase also protects phage DNA against restriction. Nonglucosylated T2 and T4 can be restricted by the prophage P1. T2 or 1:4 mutants containing high levels of methylated DNA (6-methyladenine residues) can overcome this restriction by inducing the formation of an altered DNA methylase
