Classes of T4 Phage Mutation OR Replication of DNA - There are three classes of T4 mutations which define early functions. (i) DO (DNA-negative) mutants ale unable to synthesize DNA. They are of two types: (a) Enzymes involved in the synthesis of nucleotide precursors (nucleotide metabolism enzymes). (b) Enzymes concerned with the replication of phage DNA. The details of these enzymes are given in a Later section.
(ii) DA (DNA arrest) mutants. There is rapid cessation of DNA synthesis in these mutants. (iii) DD (DNA delay) mutants. There is a delay in the onset of replication in these mutants.
