Dihydrofolate
Reductase
(frd) -
The enzyme catalyses the reduction of dihydrofolate to tetrahydrofolate. It is a functional component of the baseplate and binds the viral folate. The enzyme is a determinant of the heat stability of the virions.
The antiserum prepared against homogeneous T4D dihydrofolate reductase neutralizes phage infectivity. The dihydrofolate reductases of T4Dand T4B are different, as shown by the heat lability of the virion and in the rate of inactivation by dihydrofolate reductase antiserum.
