Elongation -
T4 DNA polymerase extends the DNA, strand on the primer, using a single DNA strand as the template. The enzyme has both polymerase and 3' exonuclease activities, which appear to be independent functions of the enzyme, its properties are similar to those of E. coli
DNA polymerase, but it lacks the, 51 exonuclease activity of that enzyme. The 3' exonuclease activity represents- a proof- reading function, and corrects errors in replication
