Entry of the Phage into the Host Cell

Entry of the Phage into the Host Cell
- Phage DNA and the A protein enter the bacterial cell. The A protein ('pilot protein') is believed to playa role in the attachment of viral DNA to a site on the plasma membrane of the host cell.

The protein remains tightly associated with viral DNA, even in the duplex RF tage. This suggests that it may be involved in intracellular events in the Ff replicative cycle.

The major capsid protein (B protein) enters the plasma membrane, and is later reused in the assembly of new phage particles
