Maturation of the Virus Particle

Maturation of the Virus Particle
- The A and B coat proteins are synthesized at, or near, the cell membrane. They are used immediately to coat the phage DNA. This takes place by an exchange reaction in which the gene V protein is displaced by the gene VII protein (B protein) deposited in the cell membrane.

The coated virion is extruded at the same time. The gene V protein is recycled for binding to other single strand DNA. Finally one or two molecules of the gene III protein (A protein) are added at one end, and the phage separates from the host cell. The release of the phage takes place without lysis or death of the bacterial cell
