Recombination

Recombination
- The last Okazaki fragments cannot be laid down at the end of the lagging strands. The replicated DNA therefore has single stranded terminations. The single stranded ends now link together and are covalently joined by ligase (recombination).

This gives rise to multi genome length molecules called concatemers. The DN A accumulated, after replication is apparently present as one megamolecular replicative intermediate (Huberman, 1968). The recombination step is essential for the maturation of DNA into particles.
