Lindane
The product containing 99 per cent gamma isomer of BHC is known as lindane which is most active against several insects. The degradation of lindane is mediated by Clostridium and Escherichia. The dehalogenation (removal of chlorine) process converts lindane to 2, 3, 4, -pentachloro-l cydo-hexane as shown below:
