Resistance Due to Interferon Related Genes
Low concentrations of human interferon is transiently antivirally active in plants and several groups have constructed transgenic plants expressing human interferons but the protection offered to viral infections have been rather mixed in the sense that some plants received protection while others did not.
Antiviral factors (AVF) have been detected subsequently in virus-infected plants and purification of the factor revealed that a major fraction of AVF was a 22 kDa glycoprotein. AVF gets particularly stimulated in host plants with viral infections which are localized.
