Comparison of Rapid And Slow Sand Filters

In slow sand filtration the detention time of water is high due to low filtration rate. As a result, microbial activity will be maximum in slow sand filter. But in rapid sand filter the filtration is very high and less time is available for any biochemical process.

In slow sand filters filtration depends upon the biological layer. But in the case of rapid sand filters, filtration does not involve biological layers. When compared with rapid sand filters, slow sand filters require more space
