Upflow Filters

These filters employ a coarse -to-fine filtration process. Sand alone is used as the single filter medium. The bottom layer is made of coarse sand which filters out most of the impurities.

The upper layer contains fine sand and filters out the remaining impurities. Upflow filters are generally used for the pretreatment of water which is further treated by gravity type rapid sand filters or slow sand filters.
