Microbial Genetics
In preceding chapters, at several places, we have cited certain examples of different genetic -aspects of microbes or microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, algae and protozoans. But they only are inadequate in projecting a clear and understandable image of microbial genetics. Since microbes have remain very advantageous and meritorious organisms for indoor genetic experimentation, and since several landmark genetic discoveries (e.g., identification of DNA and RNA as the genetic material, protein synthesis, cracking of genetic code, gene regulation, etc.), some of which could fetch Noble prizes for their discoverers, could be made only by working with these organisms, therefore, a somewhat more detailed discussion of certain genetically well-known microorganisms becomes necessary here. In this chapter, certain very important genetic principles of viruses and bacteria will only be discussed.
