Significance of Mutation
The vast majority of mutation are deleterious to the organism and so, arc kept at low frequency in the population by the action of natural selection. Mutant types are generally unable to compete equally with wild type individuals. However, they have great evolutionary signifiicance, because, the process of speciation depends variously on it.
