Ectosymbioses of Microbes

Ectosymbioses of Microbes:- The honey guide - The honey guides, a group of birds belong to the genus Indicator. They are found in India and Africa. They guide honey badgers, as well as humans, to the nest of wild bees, where they wait for their followers to break open the hive.

The honey guide feeds on the remnants of exposed honeycomb, after the badge or human has left. The birds do not have enzymes for digesting beeswax.

They harbor in their intestines two microbes, a bacterium, Micrococcus cerolyticus and a yeast, Candida albicans, which carry out digestion.
