The
honey
guide
- The
honey
guides,
a
group
of
birds
belong
to
the
genus
Indicator.
They
are
found
in
India
and
Africa.
They
guide
honey
badgers,
as
well
as
humans,
to
the
nest
of
wild
bees,
where
they
wait
for
their
followers
to
break
open
the
hive.
The
honey
guide
feeds
on
the
remnants
of
exposed
honeycomb,
after
the
badge
or
human
has
left.
The
birds
do
not
have
enzymes
for
digesting
beeswax.
They
harbor
in
their
intestines
two
microbes,
a
bacterium,
Micrococcus
cerolyticus
and
a
yeast,
Candida
albicans,
which
carry
out
digestion.
