Stationary Phase in Growth of Microorganism

Stationary Phase in Growth of Microorganisme - This phase is brought about through lack of food more accurately through exhaustion of one particular nutrient or when accumulation of toxic products completely inhibits the growth. In either case, the biomass and cell number remains constant.

The cells remain state of suspended animation. The biomass and cell numbers produced during this phase depends largely on the initial substrate concentration and on the organisms, growth yield.
This is the mass of cells produced per unit of substrate converted and is often related to the efficiency of growth on a particular substrate.

It is therefore of importance in industrial processes where the objective is to produce biomass as cheaply as possible.
