Immune
Adherence
Complement can greatly increase the adherence of immune complexes (antibody-antigen) to various types of cells that possess immune adherence (IA) receptors. Such cells are RBC, platelets, polymorphonuclear leuocytes, macrophages, and B-lymphocytes. The IA receptor is mainly the C3b receptor. This causes cells to aggregate. The immune adherence in the host increases the efficiency of phagocytosis.
