Inflamation

Inflammation is a complex response of tissue to damage from either microbial invasions or irritating agents of any sort. The inflammatory response varies with the type of tissue affected -a kind of invading agent. A number of events occur during inflammations which are important in defence against the invading agent. The most important of these is the accumulation of a large number of phagocytic cells at the site of inflammation.

There is also increased capillary permeability which allows the passage of plasma proteins into the affected tissue. The plasma may contain antibody which, acting as an opsonin, will enhance phagocytosis. In addition to phagocytic cells and specific antibody the blood also contains antimicrobial factors such as complement, properdin, etc., which are enzyme like or antibody like.
