Avenue OR Portal of Entry

Avenue or Portal of Entry

The avenue or portal of entry refers to the site at which the parasite enters the host. It varies for different parasites.

These are wound for tetanus, intestines for dysentry bacilli, lung tissue for pneumococci. Some have multiple portals of entry as the tubercle bacillus, which may enter by respirator droplets, contaminated food or milk or skin wounds.
