IIILac-IIBLac System - Sugar Specific Complexes

IIILac-IIBLac System - Sugar Specific Complexes - III Lac/IIB Lac system, e. g. the inducible lactose Enzyme II system of Staphylococcus aureus.

In this system the sugar-specific duplex consists of III Lac and IIB Lac proteins.

The IIB Lac protein is a membrane constituent which recognizes and binds lactose.

The III lac protein (MW35, 000) consists of three subunits, which appear to be identical. Each subunit can accept a phosphoryl group.

In this system lactose is simultaneously translocated and phosphorylated by the IIB Lac protein. The phosphoryl group for the phosphorylation is derived from phospho III Lac
