Transport
System
The
bacterial
has
special
transport
problems
arising
from
the
presence
of
the
cell
wall
and
of
the
fluid
filled
periplasmic
space
between
the
inner
and
outer
membranes
of
the
cell.
Binding proteins are present in the periplasmic space, and perhaps function in carrying the solute across the space. The solute is then donated to another transport receptor site at the surface of the inner membrane (plasma membrane).
