Protists -
A
third
kingdom,
Protists
was
proposed
by
E.
Haeckel
in
1886
to
include
protozoa,
algae,
fungi
and
bacteria.
This
kingdom
thus
included
both
photosynthetic
and
non
photosynthetic
forms,
some
plant
like,
some
animal
like,
and
some
having
their
own
specific
properties
as
well
as
sharing
those
of
both,
plants
as
well
as
animals.
What
then
distinguished
all
protists
from
plants
and
animals
is
their
relatively
simple
biological
organisation.
