Qualitative Microflora of Soil
One gram of soil contains various groups of microflora belonging to all sections of prokaryotic and eukaryotic groups.

Bacteria
They are the most abundant group, their numbers ranging from 100,000 to 100 million/ g of soil. They account for almost all the biological and chemical changes in the environment containing little or no oxygen.

Based on ecological differentiation, soil bacteria can be classified as
autochthonous and zymogenous bacteria.

Autochthonous bacteria are indigenous/native of soil and their
population is uniform.

Zymogenous bacteria are invaders of soil and their population depends on external source of energy. Their normal population is low, but when a specific substrate is added to the soil, they increase in number.

Based on their capacity to utilise oxygen, they are classified as aerobes,
e.g. Bacillus sp., Pseudomonas sp. and anaerobes, e.g. Clostridium sp.

Based on nutritional requirements, soil bacteria are classified as:
those requiring amino acids
those requiring B-vitamins
those requiring both

The most common bacterial flora of the soil are Pseudomonas sp,
Arthrobacter sp., Flavobacterium sp., Sarcina sp., Enterobacter sp., Bacillus sp., etc.
