Soil Characterisation [Physical]
Physical properties of soil type depend on the size of particles in it. Soil particles occupy roughly more than half the space in the soil. The remaining space between the particles, called the pore space, is occupied by water and air. The pore size or porosity of soils together with bulk density determine the structure of soils. The stability of soil aggregates depends on the organic matter content of individual soils and the nature of microbial products which binds particles together.

Soil is made up of five major components: mineral matter, water, air, organic matter and living organisms. Soil characterisation can be achieved by taking a look at the physical, chemical and biological properties of soil.
