Soil Colour
Each soil has a definite colour of its own which is mainly due to the constituents present in it. If the soil is rich in organic matter (humus which is dark in colour) then the soil is darker in nature and vice versa. If the soil is rich in some inorganic matter like ferric oxide (red) then it takes up the colour of the inorganic matter. Soil colour tells about the soil condition and the necessary remedial measures ought to be taken to improve the soil. For instance, black soil indicates fertility and light coloured soil indicates lack of fertility. Soil colour is influenced by the organic matter present in it and the depth of soil.
