Nucleus -
In
the
eucaryotic
cell,
the
genetic
material
is
stored
in
chromosomes
(within
the
Nucleus)
although
mitochondria
and
chloroplasts
also
contain
characteristic
DNA.
The
chromosomes
are
distinct
thread
like
structures
mainly
containing
deoxyribonucleic
acid
(DNA)
and
basic
proteins
such
as
histones.
The
size
and
the
number
of
the
chromosome
vary
widely
with
different
organisms.
The
nucleus
also
contains
a
nucleolus
which
is
associated
with
a
specific
chromosomal
region
known
as
the
nucleolar
organizer
and
is
presumed
to
be
involved
in
ribosomal
RNA
(r-RNA)
synthesis
