Inhibitors
-
These
include
two
widely
used
classes
of
antibiotics,
the
penicillins
and
cephalosporins.
Both
contain
a β-
lactam
ring.
They
act
on
various
Gram
positive
and
Gram
negative
rods
and
cocci,
responsible
for
various
diseases.
They
inhibit
the
formation
of
peptide
cross
linkages
within
the
peptidoglycan
backbone
of
the
cell
wall.
Other
cell
wall
inhibitors
are
vancomycin,
bacitracin
and
cycloserine.
