Importance of Microbial Ecology

Importance Of Microbial Ecology
Scientists have recognised that microorganisms occupy key positions in the orderly flow of materials and energy through the global ecosystem by virtue of their metabolic abilities to transform organic and inorganic substances.

Microorganisms have been crucial in  solving some of our pressing environmental and economic problems since they have helped us to disperse various liquid and solid wastes in a safe and effective manner.

The most important applications of microbes are in recovering metals from low-grade ores (transformation of elements).
Production of food, feed and fuel from by-products and waste materials.
Relieving nitrogen fertiliser shortage.Biological control of pests.

There are many other practical implications which make microbial ecology a highly relevant and exciting subject for study.
