Engineering- The industrial applications of recombinant DNA technology include the synthesis of substances of commercial importance in industry and pharmacy, improvement of existing fermentation processes, and the production of proteins from wastes.
Cetus Corp. has used genetic engineering methods to modify microorganisms for the production of industrial chemicals such as ethylene oxide (for making plastics) ethylene glycol (antifreeze) and alcohol. In future it will be possible to produce fuels, plastics and other industrial chemicals out of industrial wastes
